چکیده

Moss (Bryum argenteum) continues to become one of the most problematic weeds in creeping bentgrass (Agrostis palustris) putting greens. Control of moss can be approached in many different ways, including chemical applications, and cultural practices such as correcting shading or poor drainage. A study was conducted at Springdale Country Club (Springdale, Ark.) to evaluate the effectiveness of several different chemical products for the control of moss in a creeping bentgrass putting green. Daconil Zn®, Junction®, Fore®, Zerotol®, ferrous ammonium sulfate, Dawn Ultra®, and DeMoss® were applied every 14 days beginning in early June 2002 for a period of eight weeks. Visual moss control ratings were taken prior to the third application and then every 14 days. Excellent moss control was observed in plots treated with Daconil Zn® and this control was consistent for the remainder of the evaluation period. Limited moss control was observed in plots treated with Junction®, Fore®, and Zerotol®. There was no control of moss using Dawn Ultra®, DeMoss®, or ferrous ammonium sulfate.

Defines Dead Spot More Clearly

In 1998, researchers at the University of Maryland discovered a new disease of creeping bentgrass caused by an unidentified species of Ophiosphaerella. Through morphological and molecular study, it was shown that the pathogen constituted a new species, Ophiosphaerella agrostis, and the disease was named bentgrass dead spot. Subsequently, O. agrostis was found in Texas and Florida causing dead s...

Management of Take-all Patch of Creeping Bentgrass on Greens Constructed to USGA Specifications

Rationale Take-all patch, caused by Gaeumannomyces graminis f. sp. avenae, is favored by alkaline soils. Because the calcareous sands used for putting greens in the Midwest have a high pH, bentgrass greens constructed with high sand content or to USGA specifications are especially prone to the disease. Previous research addressed take-all patch on established bentgrass greens and fairways with ...

Anuew PGR Performance on Bentgrass Fairways

Growing degree day models can successfully predict the performance of gibberellin-inhibiting plant growth regulators (PGRs) applied to cool-season golf putting greens. These models are effective because metabolism or degradation of PGRs was found to be directly related to air temperature. Relative clipping yield of turfgrasses treated with PGRs follow a sinewave model with a period of growth su...

Influence of fungicides on the curative and preventive suppression of select diseases of golf course putting greens, 2009-2010

Golf course putting greens may be affected by various turfgrass pests. Fungicide applications are often necessary on either a preventive or curative basis and may target more than one disease. The initial objective of this trial was to assess the ability of various fungicides to provide curative suppression of Type II fairy ring symptoms on a creeping bentgrass (Agrostis stolonifera) putting gr...

Influence of Humic Substances on Irrigation Frequency and Phosphate Absorption of Creeping Bentgrass Putting Greens

Humic substances (HS) reportedly enhance moisture retention of soil. However, no information is available as to the effects of HS on sand-based golf course putting greens. HS have acidic functional groups (COOH) that are reaction sites on the molecule. An greenhouse experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect that the acidic functional groups in humic acid, tannic acid and citric acid have ...
